Have you heard of BKD?

When it comes to children's events and gifts, we are all about creativity. Anything that fuels children's imaginations gets a tick in our book and that is exactly what BKD do. BKD are an award winning children's baking company who offer fun, messy baking events around London.

Last week we were invited to check out their Halloween offering of Spooky Cupcakes, a cupcake decorating class for children. They are aimed at children aged 3+, so my little 2.5 year old was by far the youngest in the class but thanks to her love of a cupcake and a brilliant host, it didn't matter one bit.

Our class was held in the very friendly and cosy Home and Kids cafe in Blackheath (SE3) and was run by the very lovely Lisa who not only made us feel so welcome but remembered all the children's names (there were 12, impressive right?!).

Each child had their own station and mini apron (so cute) with cupcakes ready to decorate, cake toppings- everything from sprinkles to goggly eyes and a rolling pin so there was no fear of a 'that's mine' argument breaking out. Lisa was brilliant with the children, holding their attention and giving them step by step directions of how they could decorate their Halloween cupcakes. My little one got stuck in straight away, listening and following everything Lisa was saying.

Being sat in front of 4 cupcakes and a load of her own decorations was pretty much her idea of heaven but as a rule, no cakes are eaten at the class. They are all packed away in a box to take home. Which is just as well as between us they'd be gone by the time the class ended!

My little one of course needed help with the piping and cutting some icing but she loved sprinkling the sprinkles and sticking on the eyes. At the end of the class each child is given a little baking certificate, which was very proudly taken home.

The class was so fun, for both of us (I may have secretly eaten a handful of sprinkles!). It was lovely to see the children coming up with their own characters and really getting stuck in with the decorating.

BKD will be running a series of Christmas classes (we will definitely be back for those) to keep up to date with classes you can sign up to their news letter here or check out the events page here they will be adding their Christmas dates very soon.

As a side note BKD also host children's parties which is such a brilliant idea! I know the struggle of coming up with a different idea every year for parties, it's exhausting, especially the winter birthdays. They can come to your home or to a venue of your choice. So I now have our next birthday party sorted!
