The Christmas Edit: Best children's theatre shows

We're big theatre fans over here, I've been taking the little one since she was 18 months and she loves it just as much as I do! This Christmas season sees some absolute classics return to the stage along with some new shows that are on our MUST SEE list. Here's our edit of the shows we do not want to miss:

The Christmasaurus at the Eventim Apollo 21st-28th December 2017

We're excited about this one! The Christmasaurus is set on Christmas Eve, a story about the magical adventures of a boy named William Trundle and a most unusual dinosaur called the Christmasaurus. There are sleigh bells and singing elves, Santa Claus and flying reindeer, music and magic. It’s a tale about adventure, family, friendship and discovering that the impossible might just be possible. There's also talk of a few 'special guests.'

The Snowman at The Peacock Theatre: 23rd November 2017 - 31st December 2017

It would be impossible to list the best shows for children this Christmas and not include The Snowman, we went last year and it really is everything you'd imagine it to be. Now in it's 20th year Raymond Briggs' story does not age and is as magical as the animation we all watched when we were younger. Read our review here.

Nativity! The Musical at the Eventim Apollo December 13th - 17th 2017

Ahh....who didn't love this film! Every child in every school has one Christmas wish, to star in a Nativity, and at St Bernadette’s School they’re attempting to mount a musical version! Only trouble is teacher Mr Maddens has promised that a Hollywood producer is coming to see the show to turn it into a film. Join him, his teaching assistant the crazy Mr Poppy, hilarious children, unruly animals and a whole lot of sparkle and shine as they struggle to make everyone’s Christmas wish come true.

StickMan at Leicester Square Theatre 4th November 2017 - 7th January 2018

If you don't already have this Julia Donaldson classic on your bookshelf then go and get it...and then be prepared to read it a million times! What starts off as a morning jog becomes quite the misadventure for Stick Man: a dog wants to play fetch with him, a swan builds a nest with him and he even ends up on a fire! How will Stick Man ever get back to the family tree? This award winning production features a trio of top actors and is packed full of puppetry, songs, live music and funky moves! The Gruffalos Child at The Lyric Theatre: 22nd December - 7th January 2018

It's not a surprise that another Julia Donaldson classic makes this list! Join the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. One wild and windy night the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse and tiptoes out into the deep dark wood. She follows snowy tracks and encounters mysterious creatures – but the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist... does he?

Boing! The Unicorn Theatre: 22nd November 2017 - 31 December 2017

We're so excited to have just discovered the Travelling Light Theatre Company who's mission is 'to create outstanding theatre for and with young people that inspires their thinking, engages their emotions and fires their imaginations.' If that's their motto then they have new fans over here at The Christmas Edit! This Christmas they are bringing Boing! to the Unicorn theatre. An enchanting piece of dance theatre, set on Christmas Eve that captures the delirious excitement of two boys waiting for Father Christmas to arrive. It sounds utterly magical and we can't wait to take the little ones to see this!
